APPOINTMENT OF NEW CURATE I am delighted to announce the appointment, from July, of Claire Maxim as Curate for these parishes. Claire will be ordained Deacon in Winchester Cathedral at the beginning of July and will moving here with her family at the end of that month. Currently she is training for the Ministry at Queens College Birmingham while working as Senior Regulatory Analyst for E.ON UK within the UK electricity generation and trading arena. We look forward very much to welcoming her and the family here in the summer. (Peter Gilks)
NEW TESTAMENT COURSE This has now been completed, however full notes of all the sessions were produced and are available to anyone who had to miss one or other of the sessions. You may also have a copy of the whole set for £1 – (to cover the cost of copying.); see Peter or Julia.
ST JOHNS ORGAN FUND – Near the font at St. John the Baptist church is an old wooden organ pipe which has been converted into a money box. If you have any spare cash please drop it into the pipe and you will be helping the organ fund – many thanks.
SILVER SURFERS – Wednesdays 10th 17th and 24th March. They normally meet on a Wednesday 10 – 12 am at All Saints Church. This is a group for beginners, especially those who would like to know how to use a computer in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. If you wish to attend the next session please bring a wireless enabled lap top with you and it would also be appreciated if you could telepone the office beforehand (02380 737617). Thank you.
LENT COURSE – Not a Tame Lion This year, based on the writings of C S Lewis. Format is similar to last year with film clips to illustrate discussion points. There will be five weekly sessions at 7.30pm in St. Mark’s Church room on a Wedensday evening at 7.30. All welcome.
ALL SAINTS FLOWERS - Recently we have lost a number of regular donations towards the church flowers resulting in the arrangers paying for the flowers themselves. Would you like to make a donation on a regular basis to commemorate an anniversary, birthday or other special occasion? (We always collect separately for the 3 big celebrations.) Help with arranging or cleaning up is always gratefully welcomed To be put on the rota please speak to Rosemary Jones, Yvonne Oliver or call in the Parish office.
BUPA INITIATIVE COMMUNITY CROPS GARDEN PROJECT The local Bupa care home in North Baddesley needs assistance with this project, if you think you can help please phone Jackie Fergusson on 023 80741342
WHERE'S THE VICAR?
As many of you are already aware, I shall be taking a period of Study leave from 15th March to 20th June. During this time I shall be pursuing a music project that has been an ambition for some years.
While I am away Julia will be acting as the leader of the Ministry Team, and will be responsible for the pastoral and worship aspects of ministry, the churchwardens will continue their responsibility for the buildings and have overall charge of each parish. Sally will run the Parish Office as normal and act as a “signpost” for matters that I would normally have dealt with on a day to day basis.
I am enormously grateful to Julia, Vanessa, Dave and Sally who will be working extra hours while I am away to enable me to take this period of leave – you only get it every 15 years, so it won’t happen again any time soon. I am also very grateful to Archdeacon Adrian Harbidge who will also be helping us on several Sundays.
For more details of the arrangements please see the Vicar’s letter in the magazine.
You may still see me about from time to time, as I am doing part of this period as home-based study and some at Sarum College in Salisbury. Jacky and I will also be taking a 3 week holiday, visiting Iona.
See you in June!
Iris Heyworth's funeral service will take place on
Wednesday 10th March 2010, 3.00 pm at the crematorium.
